Biometrics consists of analysing unique and distinguishable physical features of an individual, in order to extract key information. This information (minutiae) is used as a template to recognize a person (identification) or to ensure that the person one claims to be (authentication). Templates acquired during the enrolment process can be stored either on a local hard drive, RFID tag, a microchip, or a central server database, depending on the application's needs. It is impossible to recreate the original image from the generated template, the confidentiality of the stored data is absolute.

Digital Fingerprint recognition is currently the most efficient technic in terms of security and cost/performance ratio. Convenient, quick and easy, it allows physical and logical access control to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive data, protects individuals' privacy and security rights,and validates the overall process.
